Jay was immediately drawn to Gruber and Associates when one of our team members met Jay through her cousin. He resonates with our corporate culture of supporting each other and supporting our clients much like an extended family.
Prior to joining the firm, Jay was an auditor at the Florida Department of Revenue. Many of his audits involved large supply vendors for Publix. He also worked in private industry as a restaurant accountant, which reminded him of his college days when he was a barista at Starbucks. Several years in the restaurant world convinced Jay that public accounting would offer a much broader experience.
Jay was born in Honduras and was adopted in infancy by a single mom who also adopted two other children. He maintains dual citizenship but has not yet returned to his native country. He grew up in South Florida and went to American Heritage High School.
Shortly after graduating from American Heritage, Jay served our country for five years in the Marine Corps serving tours in Iraq and achieving the rank of Corporal.
Jay is an avid movie goer and has an interest in theater. Like our other Marine staff member, he also considers himself a video game nerd.
Fun Fact: Jay’s family has multinational heritage. His brother was born in Guatemala and his sister was born in El Salvador.
